What is Thermoforming?

Thermoforming is a plastics fabrication method which consists of heating a thermoplastics sheet, and then sticking it firmly on top of a mold to shape it with the aid of a vacuum, a pressure, or both.

HIPF Course Description

Course Objective

  • To create awareness on the importance of Thermoforming plastics fabrication technology
  • To discuss and explain the concepts, theories and practices of Thermoforming plastics fabrication
  • To train the Trainees on the proper and safe operation of the Thermoforming machine

At the end of this course, the trainees will have acquired basic knowledge and skills important to the operations of a Multilayer Sheet Extrusion Plant

Part 1 – Classroom Lectures

  1. Basic Thermoforming Technology
  • Introduction – Definition & Development of Thermoforming
  • Specific and detailed Study of Resources (4 M’s)
  • Materials being used in Thermoforming
  • Methods / Systems or the Thermoforming Processes
  • Manpower (Operator’s role and Basic Supervision)
  • Machines parts and functions including

2. Maintenance procedures

Part 2 – Hands-on and Practical Training

    1. Operation of the Thermoforming Machine
    • Reminder and adherence to Safety features, signs and instructions
    • Adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) such as:
      • Proper handling of Materials
      • Machine features, parts and functions
      • Start up and shut down procedures
      • Process parameters required and trouble-shootings needed to achieve the Quality being required or aimed for
